Google Goes For Shopping Again And Buys Feedburner

Posted in: Google

Like every single blog, news feed, web portal, newspaper, tv news program, I will write a post to repeat once again to the world that Google has just bought FeedBurner for $100 millions.

FeedBurner is a successful service that takes care of handling and monitoring RSS feeds, by optimizing them, logging their access and tell you lots of things about the feed readers. Wonderful idea supported first by some $10 million 4 years ago. Very good investment.

But to keep on my habits, I won’t be so king towards Google. In fact behind that you should get ready to see banners and adverts all over your clean RSS feeds. Let’s imagine what it will look like. In fact it has already started because feeburner already proposes to add ad links at the end of every article you submit in your feed.

When you read the article using your favorite reader, the link sometimes look like a simple link integrated in the text. So it’s very confusing. Confusion in advertising leads to lots of $$. Well done Google again.

Soon there will be banners and flash animation all over the articles. That’s the way Internet goes.

But the really bad aspect underneath is that Google will control (and probably is controlling) almost every advert published on the web. That points the end of competition in a market that represents the unique source of revenue on the web. Get ready for the advertising monopoly. Prices of adverts will raise and you won’t be able to discuss it.

Microsoft is no more a player on this market and Google is moving its pawns very fast.
